>Three Cheers for the Veterans

>I went to a Veterans’ Day program at my children’s school and as always, everyone is politely grimacing during the band piece, and pretends to hear and understand what the students are saying when they are reciting their poems. It’s all sweet and we’re all proud of our children for standing up and taking part in the program. But the best part of the whole program is when they ask the Veterans in the audience to stand up so we can all give them a resounding applause. Today there were Vets from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Panama, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. There was only one active duty military person in attendance today. She is in the Coast Guard and just graduated high school last year. Her mother still lives next door to me. I couldn’t help but feel a little proud of her coming back to her high school to talk part in the program. She looked very grown up in her uniform She wasn’t the giggly little high school girl anymore.
My thanks to you Veterans, and those still in active duty, for everything.
