This book was recommended to me by one of my friends, but it wasn’t until I was shelving a cart of fiction and noticed it on the cart that I gave it much thought. It’s not that I wasn’t interested in it but with all the other books I have in my to-be-read pile I was putting it on hold for a while. But, when I found it on my cart, I held it in my hands, looked at the reviews on the back, and skimmed the first couple of paragraphs then decided to take it home and read it.
I am so glad I did!
I immediately put my name on the hold list for Fire (Graceling Realm #2).
A Graceling is a person who is born with a special talent and they are marked by having two different colored eyes. Most places in the realm treat gracelings like freaks or tools, depending on the talent. Katsa has a unique talent that is of great interest to her uncle, the King. Her extremely fast reflexes, flexibility, endurance, and strength make her an excellent thug to go around threatening the king’s subjects into submission. She performs her brutal services for the king even though she hates what she is made to do, until the day she decided enough was enough.
I loved this book. It was a simple story but the underlying situations were complex enough to make this interesting for mature audiences.
