Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I thought it was time to read this book after all the hype.
It’s a very fast-paced story about sixteen year old Katniss, who lives in a dystopian, post apocalyptic America. Every year the Capitol pulls one boy and one girl from each of the 12 districts to “play’ the Hunger Games, which are a brutal reminder to each of the districts what happens when they try to hold a revolution against the Capitol. Out of the 24 kids who enter the arena, only 1 gets out alive and the whole thing is televised, like a “reality TV show.” When Prim, Katniss’ younger sister, gets drawn to be the female tribute from District 12 for the Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place.
This book was a quick read that kept me entertained for an evening or two. I even had a brief eye-watering, lump-in-the-throat moment during one part of it. Rue! For those of you who have read it, you will know what I’m talking about. But most of the time I was rolling my eyes at Katniss and Peeta.
