>Strange day

>Are you sure it’s not Monday today?

I couldn’t get out of bed this morning; I’m still trying to get used to the time change. I don’t like getting up when it’s still dark out. I wish we could just leave the time alone – one way or the other.

Then I remembered it was Friday. We get to wear jeans on Fridays – that’s worth getting out of bed for. Unless the laundry hasn’t been done in over a week because it’s been an extremely wild lately with zero time to do laundry. The only clean jeans I had were in the dryer – still damp from who knows how long ago. Just thinking of that feeling of cold, damp, clammy jeans when you put them on the in the morning was almost enough to make me go back to bed.

Almost.

I put the jeans on anyway and stumbled out the door to the car. The garage door was all freaked out and didn’t want to close. It kept going back up, I suppose something was over the sensor. I kept pushing the button making the door go up and down, up and down, until finally it squealed its way to the bottom. Then out the driveway I went.

Looking at the clock I realized I was going to be late for work. Well, I may as well stop for coffee since I’m already late. Kwik Trip or bust! I get my coffee and continue on my way. When getting out of my car and picking up my coffee cup – I haven’t drank any yet – I notice there is a puddle underneath the cup. Crap! A leaker!

Holding the cup well away from me, I still managed to get coffee all down the front of my jacket and pants. Oh well, my jeans were still damp anyway, what’s the difference? I walk to my office as fast as I can while holding my coffee cup at arm’s length away from me. When I get to my desk I pour what was left of my coffee into my to-go cup – the one I never seem to have with me when I stop at Kwik Trip. Then I noticed why it was leaking… there was a huge crack in the cup. I have no idea when/were/how that came to be but it was there all the same.

After I had the coffee situation taken care of, I tried to turn my computer on for the day and saw the blue screen of death! I rebooted and it seems to be working ok now. Hope it was a fluke!

After lunch, I went down to the little bookstore to hang up some posters and while I was there I noticed a Kim Stanley Robinson book. I picked it up and looked at it. The lady that was working there told me she had never heard of Kim Stanley Robinson and asked what kind of book it was.

Me “Science Fiction.”

Her “Oh, I quit reading that stuff in High School.”

Hmmm, I didn’t know quite what to say about that. I was kind of shocked and felt I was being judged. My mom always told me if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything. So, I kept my mouth shut, put the book back and walked out of the store.

There is a silver lining on this black cloud that’s over me today. I will have a quiet evening all to myself tonight – I hope – to finish reading The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart by Jesse Bullington,to continue reading Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson and to work on the dwindling collection of beer in my fridge.

Cheers!

Oh yeah! I just remembered some more silver lining!

I received my copy of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith that I won on sweeps4bloggers! I can’t wait to start reading it but feel I should finish at least one of the other books I’m reading right now.

>I won a copy of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

>My day was made at 6:30 this morning! Even the slow, foggy drive into work didn’t bring me down. I spent the whole time day dreaming about my good fortune…

As usual, I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. Being a night owl is a tough lifestyle when you have a day job. My alarm was ringing every ten minutes for the last half-hour and the bed reached it’s most comfortable state. Flailing around on the nightstand for my glasses, I noticed the blinking light on my phone. Oooh a message!

Disregarding my glasses, I picked up the phone instead. The message was from Valerie from Sweeps4bloggers! I had entered to win a copy of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith about a week ago. My interest peaked as I opened the email.

Joy of joys! I was being informed that I was a winner! This doesn’t happen very often so needless to say I was beside myself with happiness and leaped out of bed and did a happy dance!

This will give me reason to check my mailbox every day! I can’t wait until it comes.

My name is on the sweeps4bloggers list of winners!
